John Lacey – 1624 – Northern Shadows

One of the best from one of the foremost contemporary landscape artists in the world. This painting draws you in and leads the viewer first to the middle distant trees then on to a seemingly never-ending distance. Although this is an expressionist /impressionist work it does not lose sight of the subject we know so well. We look at the painting and are enveloped by the feeling of distance.

City of Victor Harbor Award - $5000
Nina Volk – 2215 – Adelaide at Night

A Watercolourist who has forged her own interpretation of a rainy night in the city of Adelaide.    A powerful depiction of a tricky subject in a difficult medium. The use of figures cements our identification with the scene and the omission of fine details drags the imagination into the scene.

Rotary Victor Harbor Award $3000
Lorraine Lewitzka – 1673 – Leather and Lace

A contemporary portrait which stands as one of Lorraines best in this series. The blue which permeates the painting is seen even in the face and draws the work together. A perfect combination of traditional and contemporary methods and once we catch sight of the eyes it is hard to look away. A painting that shows a portrait painters skill mixed with bold abstract marks.

Glen Hoyle 1527 Equine Beauty
A perfect rendition of a horses head with an abstract flavoured background bring this painting to life. A small work with a mighty punch.

Bruce Davey – 1256 –  Middleton Point
An exceptional work in which the breaking wave is the hero. The horizon line is cleverly softened so as not to become a focal plane thus handing the focus in the proper place. The foreground rocks and sand all point to this watery focal point.

Indiginous Award - $1000
2324 No name or title on the label
The traditional earthy ochre colours in this large work remind us of the red earth so prevalent In Australia and stands apart from the more colourful and contemporary indigenous work.

Emerging Female artist
Christina Davis – 1272 – Jetty at Golden hour
The Golden Hour when scenes take on the setting or rising sun and the way it colours everything in its path. An interesting depiction of two directions of perspective in the jetty and the water line.

Sculpture Award

Peter Elgar – 1339 – Tea Pot Tower
An imaginative and humorous sculpture that touches the hearts of all serious tea drinkers. All of Peters works in this show are outstanding.
